Can you trust your forecast today?

Enabling informed decisions for increasing safety and minimizing costs

How well is your favorite model forecast doing today?  Can you trust the forecast enough to make critical design decisions or schedule costly assets to visit your offshore site?  Whether constructing an offshore turbine or managing the response to an approaching hurricane, both scenarios require daily vital decisions that can significantly impact human lives, the natural environment, and millions of dollars’ worth of assets and revenues.

With the help of industry partner RPS and NOAA's Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) , WaveForce is helping to upgrade the model validation technology on the RPS OceansMap online data portal for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Association Coastal Ocean Observing System (MARACOOS).  Based on the powerful suite of model validation tools within our XWaves software package, the new online tools use real-time measurements to access the performance of every model run.  This allows managers and operators to gain confidence in specific model products so they can be used to their full potential.

The tools allow users to select their geographic region and required forecast parameters (winds, waves, water levels, etc.), and provides a variety of model performance metrics and products specific to the latest model runs. Features include automatic model/observation data matching, user-selectable date ranges, and easy to understand metrics. Having these metrics available online provides the user community with essential information to help make critical decisions for their offshore projects and activities.
